By now you have heard that I have teamed up with MadameNoire to present CurvyNoire. Like Life Styled Honors, CurvyNoire will celebrate the beauty and brilliance of womanhood. However, this event specifically targets a community of women who are without question, too often excluded… Curvy Black Women.
We are in the midst of a curvy revolution, fueled by the presence of bold unapologetic plus size women. The new attitudes of plus size women paired with the growth of the plus population and their buying power have captured the attention of mainstream media and brands who once wouldn’t give us a second glance. However, despite the growth of inclusion and visibility, plus size black women are still finishing last.
As community leaders, we felt obligated to created a space that uses conversation and fashion to celebrate and elevate the ever-evolving plus-size fashion industry. This event is a vehicle for redefining standards and encouraging responsiveness to plus Black bodies in mainstream spaces. CurvyNoire is designed to make a significant impact, not just in plus style, but the fashion industry as a whole. What better time to host an event of this caliber than during the height of New York Fashion Week, a space where we have traditionally been excluded.
CurvyNoire will showcase the fashions of outstanding indie designers and brands. The runway will be ripped by a diverse collective of beautiful black plus-size models. In addition to all of the fashion, style, and curves that will be served, there will be a panel which will discuss how plus size black women can navigate spaces that often exclude them.
The panel will be moderated by Nikki Wiggins of NikkiFreeStyle, and include powerhouses who were blessed with melanin and curves:
Shaina Harrison, Lifestylist, Activist & Digital Influencer
Brande Victorian, Senior Content Director for the Women’s Division at Interactive One (MadameNoire & HelloBeautiful)
Cherie Washington, Asst Manager Public Relations of L’Oreal Multicultblural Beauty
Chante Burkett, Digital Influencer & Boutique Owner
