MY STYLE JOURNAL: Girl With Curves x #FatAtFashionWeek

Hey PHAT Girls!

Since it is Thursday I decided to throw it back just a little to last Thursday when your girl was living her best life in the “Big Apple.” Some of you might know and some may not but last week was NYFW, The Curvy Con and Essence Street Style. There were literally fashionistas on every scene and they slayed.  However, what made me so proud was that plus size women showed up and showed out, so much so that not even mainstream media couldn’t deny our fly. Oh and, if you don’t believe me, check out the hashtag #FatAtFashionWeek created by OG blogger Kellie Brown.

Of course, I packed for NYC with showing up and styling out in mind and when I looked in the mirror, I was confident I was cute or whatever. So yeah, I did expect a few compliments and likes on my pictures. What I didn’t expect was to wake up Saturday morning to a feature on Instyle Magazine‘s website which included me in a roundup of stylish plus size women that had taken to the streets of New York. I definitely didn’t expect to see my picture included in an article on Vogue’s website. Oh and, I was featured and quoted yesterday in Madamenoire.  Can you say, beyond my wildest dreams!

In addition to all the dopeness that took place while at The Curvy Con, my blogger boo Tanesha Awasthi of Girl With Curves released her collection with Lane Bryant.  Lucky for me, I was able to preview and snag a dress from the collection prior to the release because many of the pieces are now sold out and because it ultimately became one of my favorite looks while in New York City. The dress was just what I needed while walking those New York streets, cute and comfortable.

Again I say ladies, you must commit to showing up in every moment! Did I think that I would receive the coverage that I did… NO! However, I did because I showed up and I put my best foot forward. Many times God blesses us most when we display the smallest amount of faith. So, I encourage you to be intentional and show up because showing up is the only way that you will ever style out!
