#HEREIAM: Rocking All Black And Not Trying To Look Skinny

Hey PHAT Girls!

Maui of PHAT Girl Fresh wearing pieces from Ashley Nell Tipton's Boutique+ collection for JCPennyRiddle me this, why is it that so many individuals in society assume that plus size women have a strong desire to be skinny or smaller? It is as if they think that we spend our entire day eating and praying that a genie appears and grants us that one wish… To be smaller! I have heard so many times, “oh, she is doing this or she is wearing that to look smaller.” However, the truth is most plus size women are too busy taking over the world to be fixated on “looking skinny”.

As a girl, I used to hear people say, “wear black, it makes you look skinny” and I didn’t get it. Even before I became plus size, my question was, why is it so important to look skinny? Back then I knew nothing about beauty standards or what it meant to be considered pretty and worthy as a woman in society. However today as a plus size woman with a lot more knowledge and understanding, I get why people think that every plus size woman wants to be skinny, but I am here to let the world know that is not our truth.

For years, plus size women were put in a corner like Baby but unlike Baby, no one came to save us (yes, I love Dirty Dancing). We absorbed all of the negativity that society attached to us however, that has changed. We love the woman in the mirror, we are happy with who she is and we are not here for society’s beauty standards. We know who we are, we are not ashamed and it is not our desire to be skinny or create the illusion that we are.http://www.jcpenney.com/

Lately there has been an out pouring of plus pride, which is exactly what is needed to make society understand our truth as plus size women. Now more than ever, it is vital the world recognizes we are not in pursuit of what society says is beautiful. We need to make it clear that we don’t feel obligated to lose weight to live and enjoy life, we are doing that right now with the bodies that we have and love. We are grand in size, filled with confidence and boldly saying… “HERE I AM!”

JCPenney x Ashley Nell Tipton

When I saw the pieces I am rocking in this post which are from Ashley Nell Tipton’s Boutique+ collection for JCPenney, I fell in love. Why? Because the fashion actually makes the same statement as the body positive campaign attached to it… #HEREIAM! It is fun and fashionable but most of all it compliments and celebrates the beauty of plus size women. Oh, and I must say, I am here for that!

This 50’s inspired collection boasts so much of Ashley’s style as a designer and as a plus size woman. The combination of leather and chiffon is chic and flirty but also very bold and badass. I like that this is a collection that can be mixed and matched to create so many amazing looks that display our unique styles. However, what I love is that the collection is available to extended plus size women and in true JCPenney fashion, the collection is very affordable with prices starting at $15.Maui of PHAT Girl Fresh wearing pieces from Ashley Nell Tipton's Boutique+ collection for JCPenny

“I am sure that people assume I wear so much black because of my size but that is far from the truth. I wear black because I like it, nothing more nothing less! If you know me or support my blog you know that I am big (pun intended) on doing what I want and encouraging other women to follow suit.”Maui of PHAT Girl Fresh wearing pieces from Ashley Nell Tipton's Boutique+ collection for JCPenny

You look lovely. I have always been very insecure about my weight and I never felt I could look good without having the perfect figure. But your blog has made me realize that their is no such thing as a perfect figure. And every post on your blog inspires me so much.
