Hey booskis! Happy PHAT Girl Friday!
My style is one that is really out of the box. I am not that chick that has to rock heels, as a matter of fact I am the total opposite. I live in flats and I am so here for a cute skirt and a graphic tee with a catchy phrase. I guess that is why it has always been a no-brainer for me to have a tee shirt line associated with blog.
For years, my wardrobe consisted of some of the funniest graphic tees. They gave me life and gave my look just what I need. I could dress it up with a cute skirt and flats (no heels allowed) or dress it down with a pair of sneaker and some jeans or a pair of jeans and a wedge… I could go on and on (in my Erykah Badu voice) with the options. Just know that more times than not, I have created looks based on my personal style that included a kick ass tee shirt with a statement that was out of the box.
Even before I changed the name of my blog to PHAT Girl Fresh, I had a tee shirt line associated with my then blog; The Mauilogues. Actually the tee shirt line that was associated with The Mauilogues is what gave birth to PHAT Girl Fresh. Yes, I know you didn’t know that but PHAT Girl Fresh began as a slogan on a tee shirt in 2011. However, in 2013 I made the transition and it changed my life.
I have always been a huge fan of graphic tees, not only are the versatile but they add so much personality to your look. I have a collection of graphic tees, and I think that my favorite one would have to be one that said, “hooker don’t snuggle.” Lmao!!! So yeah, it was my love for tee shirts and my crazy personality that inspired me to create my first tee shirt line in 2011.
While I knew what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it, for years I restricted myself because I thought I was team too much (hell I am). I didn’t think that women would absorb the thoughts of a silly ass fat girl with a mouth like a sailor. I just thought that I was too politically incorrect and very unladylike and that was something that was unacceptable.
I tell people all the time that I am on my Lisa Stansfield shit,
“I MAY NOT BE A LADY BUT I AM ALL WOMAN”
Over time, I begin to see and realize, that was the truth of a lot of women and that it was time to give more of that straight up no chaser Maui that you need in your life. Even one of my mentors (in my head); Arsha Jones, owner of Tees In The Trap credits the success of her brand to her own mind. She created something that she felt was missing; a brand that expressed the voice of women like her. Which is exactly what I am doing.
With all of that being said, I am pouring all of my personality into this tee shirt shop that I am now calling, the PHAT Girl BouTEEque (shout out to my friend and brand stylist Kim McCarter for helping me with the name change). With the variety that I plan to bring, I am sure that nearly any woman will be able to find something they can rock and get their lives in.
So ladies, chime in and tell me if you are a fan of graphic tees and what you think of the PHAT Girl BouTEEque. I really want to know how you rock your tees and If you have a favorite (even if it isn’t one of mine) tell me about it.
