Whitney Houston Debut Album Turns 30

On this day 30 years ago, the world was gifted greatness in the form music.  February 14, 1985 Whitney Houston debut album was released.  The 21-year-old former model oozed the charm of the girl next door, but her out of this world voice stunned audiences all over the world. With a few choice notes, the New Jersey native could silence full arenas and even in death, her voice is still a national treasure. For Arista, however, Houston’s biggest asset wasn’t only that she could sing, but how she sang. At a given moment, Whitney had the skill to transition from gospel to soul and from soul to pop without belting out one wrong or off key note.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been three years since we lost one of the greatest voices of our lifetime. Throughout her career, Whitney Houston broke records and topped the charts, making her one of the best selling pop and R&B artists of all time. So it’s no surprise that when this legend first stormed onto the music scene with her debut self titled album, she did it with a bang!

Although Whitney is gone, her music still lives and despite all of the bad press that surrounded her life, Whitney will forever have the love of fans like myself.  And on this day of love what better gift( other than cars, clothes and jewelry) than the gift of song from the woman that gave “THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL!”
